StagBeetle Goes Fishing

"I've got to say, StagBeetle..."

date: May 4, 2008

You're one hell of an artist when you decide to do something good. The first part of this is good. The water, the fishing, the joke you made about how so many here will think the Metal Gear reference is "awesome", the epic pulling up of the note from the water (lol, I really need to play Ace Attorney sometime), all very good.

But the ending really screws this movie. I would gladly give it a 5 and a 10, but the ending (a never-ending loop of shooting noises) is definitely not to my liking. It's just too loud in comparison to the rest of the movie. And yet overall the movie is still pretty good.

~How to make a Madness KO

"Exactly."

date: May 4, 2008

Krinkels himself is OK, I can enjoy his work from time to time, and there's been a couple OK Madness "tributes", but for the most part it's overdone. It's good to see someone finally standing up and saying how the overuse needs to stop.

But since I liked the message so much, why, you may ask, did I only give this movie an 8? Simply put, the Flash itself is a little lacking. The music really doesn't go that well with the subject matter, and the text should probably move just a little faster. But other than that it's OK, and the message (telling people to stop ripping of of Krinkels) is something that more people need to take to heart.

F**k the S**t

"Video submission, eh?"

submission: F**k the S**t
date: May 1, 2008

Usually I don't really care for video submissions. They tend to be crappy pointless home videos that belong on YouTube, not Newgrounds. However, to every rule there is at least one exception... And this movie is one of those exceptions.

For one, the video is funny in itself. The way those three were fighting over the mike, and the attention of the camera... Not unlike myself and some of my friends in real life would do. And then there's the song... Hilarious. It may just be different forms of "fuck", "the", and "shit" over and over in different orders, with a "YEAH!" at the end of the song, but simple as it is it's fucking funny.

Now for the bad parts. First of all, it's not Flash. For me NG submissions should be Flash, barring the occasional My NG or Numa Numa-like classic. But this is one of them, so you don't lose too many points there. And it's a little too short, could probably be longer and not suffer from being overdrawn. But overall, it's not too bad.

...you don't make anything that's not totally amazing, do you? Even when you try to make a short loop like this it comes out perfectly animated, and rather cute. You're a Flashmaking god... I don't usually tend to like short little loops like this, and you lose points on the vote and review for that, but... Otherwise, this is amazing.

House of 1000 Cats

"One hell of a movie."

submission: House of 1000 Cats
date: May 1, 2008

Well, Zombie-Pimp, looks like you've made the best Flash of Pico Day... And devoted it to an anti-Kitty Krew message. Now, I used to discriminate against Flash based on crew preferences, back when I was wholly anti-KK in October/November, but I'm not going to do that now. Not for such an amazing movie as this.

Looking at your previous Flash, I should have expected something this amazing from you, but I guess I didn't. Caught me off-guard, you can say, to see that someone had managed to out-animate Adam Phillips, and to make a Flash that impresses me this much. The NG crowd look amazing, Tom and Pico and Darnell and P-Bot... Totally loved the Penicorn... And did I mention how hot Nene looks? Seriously, you've made her look better than anyone before you has.

As for the plot, I've seen NG heroes blast the KK before (notably in Don't Mess With P-Bot, a Daily Feature which was one of my faves up until the admins deleted it just today), but never this well nor with this much story behind it. A tower of Kitties, 1000 of them, making bad Flash and upvoting it just enough to get Turd and Underdog... And BigFuzzyKitten himself at the top, watching 2girls1cup (side note: Meatspin would have been more accurate), still angry at some of the NG mods and admins (specifically Luis, apparently, from the looks of the man who kicked him off the computer) for being cruel to him in his early days. P-Bot sacrificing himself to save Pico... One of the most epic movies I've yet seen, anywhere! Seriously, I've seen cinematic releases that weren't this amazing.

Now, I am a member of the Kitty Krew. But I cannot deny the huge quantities of awesome that you submitted to the Portal in this movie. One of the best movies submitted to Newgrounds yet, and certainly the best anti-KK movie on the site.

MBot vs. Kirk-Cocaine

"You cannot stop MBot?"

date: April 29, 2008

Apparently someone could, and that someone's name was Wade Fulp.

This is actually one of your "better" works, Zeeb. Not quite a weeklong effort in, ahem, "experimental" techniques and spoofs of every anime and movie ever made like another alt-submitted movie of yours that I can name, but it's certainly not bad. My biggest problem with this submission is not so much with the movie but about the very concept of MBot, but it's far too late to talk about that now.

You could have placed a "replay" button at the end of the movie, on that final frame with "MBote for the Win" and "You cannot stop MBot", but other than that, no complaints. Well, except that it's not some long, complex movie like some others I enjoy, with story and such, but that obviously wasn't the purpose of this movie.

"All right! Now we're getting somewhere"

date: April 25, 2008

I remember when these began, all the way back in December. Back then, these movies, while better than the Afro_Stud ripoff that I expected, well... OK, I can't really put it any other way, and no offense, but they just sucked at the start. No sound, crappy sprite use, blank white background, you remember it all so I won't waste space with any further detail. Then you had Bstuk2 do episode 4, while you worked on other projects... And it was the best one yet.

But you must have taken the hints from the NG community about improving your skills and your submissions, because this one's damn good. If I may say so, Yoshi, it's a major improvement over any other work that you have yet made. I'm greatly impressed by how much you have improved since December, or even more so on your great improvements since the last time I saw any of your movies other than the Afro_Stud ripoffs.

Overall, it's not quite the best movie I've seen on NG. However, it is the best movie of yours that I've seen. Keep up improving like this, and pretty soon you'll be one hell of a popular artist, far more so than you are now.

Star Day 2008: 321-OtPS

"Hey 321?"

date: April 23, 2008

Don't let the haters get you down. Fact is, it's Star Day, and this movie fits right in with the other submissions of the day. I wouldn't say it's the best movie submitted for Star Day 08, but it's certainly not the worst by far. Might be a bit better if it was longer, but you likely had your reasons for not making it longer.

Night in Hotlanta

"It seems to me..."

submission: Night in Hotlanta
date: April 23, 2008

...that the greatest work of the Star Syndicate was saved for its last. Truly, no greater thing has yet come of any crew on Newgrounds! And one like me, who takes an "interest" in crews, could not go without reviewing this, the final movie of one of the best-known groups on Newgrounds.

Like I said in my review for Part 1, I'm not the biggest fan of noir. But this one just... Worked, you might say. Better than the first part, in all respects. The tale was completed in a way that I could not have forseen: and such a surprise is a good thing in any work of cinema. An era ended with this movie, the era of the Star Syndicate; but at the very least the ending was more beautiful than the beginning, and nothing else can be asked of the people of any time.

All in all, this movie is far greater than the first part. And since this the same as that but complete, I have defavorited Dailytoon #400 Part 1... To favorite this masterpiece in its place! And to the members of the Star Syndicate, both those involved in the making of this movie and those who did not take part, I have only this to say: though your days as a crew are done (and I feel some sadness at the thought of it), I wish each and every one of you the best of luck in all your future endeavors!

Samus vs Meta knight:ssbb

"All right dec..."

date: April 20, 2008

You've certainly improved since those first two Anti-KK movies you made. True, this one wasn't quite of the quality of Bowser's Kingdom or some other legendary sprite movies I could mention, but it's both an improvement over your earlier work and a fairly good movie in itself. Not bad at all. The sound was a little too loud on my computer, so it loses a point for that, but overall it's pretty damn good. Plus, you knew exactly who would win in that situation... Samus > Meta Knight.
