The Man Stands Up Again

OK, so, I'm back. My hiatus was a seeming success: it astounded me how long I was able to go without Newgrounds, even missing some deposits during that time. I'd still be gone if the BBS hadn't called me back (seriously, the day after I left someone made yet another thread about age differences in relationships... I almost failed then and there, nearly went on another rant about fall 2004). I might try that again if I feel I'm spending too much time online, or that point depositing has become a chore, but I might be here for a long time before I do, if it ever happens.

So I return to the Internet today, only to find that in my absence, 71chan has been taken down through no fault of my own. Apparently the host couldn't cover costs (strange, since it had always been able to do so before), and shut down. I'd find a new free host, but I know none of them will ever compare to what I had at NXServe, so since the experiment was a temporary success (before some fuckjob decided to run bad PHP scripts and got everyone's account deleted for two weeks), I'm going to upgrade to paid hosting after I can secure a proper source of income (read: get off my fat lazy ass and get a fucking job). Maybe to a new domain name too. But my contest (with a total of $150 and moderator access to the boards) continues, even while the site itself does not.

Yes, I'm still the man who left you a little over three weeks ago. Yes, I'm still religious, homophobic, and a right-winger. But I've decided that out of all the Internet, this is still the best place for me.

I'm home.

Or you could just bum server space off some guy who knows some guy who runs his own server. That's what I'm doing.

I don't know anyone like that except sparky4, and his server is his home computer, runs Windows ME, and can't run Perl or MySQL. Piyoko/PandaKnickers used to have her own server, but she ran out of money, and then moved to the same host I was on.

Any ideas of what job you might be able to get in order to pay your server costs?

Also, since I just heard about this contest, and I just got a certification in Photoshop (check my page), expect something from me in the next week.

Why thank you. Maybe next fall I'll be able to get a job at a fast food place, though an on-campus job at my college might be better. And if you're going to do something for the contest, you read the rules, right? I trust that you did, and I can't wait to see what you produce.

Back when I was whistling abusive reviews, I had an advantage you don't have. See, back in my day (great, now I'm calling January 2008 "my day") we had a little thread in Wi/Ht? called "Rage's gift to you: Abusive reviews". But Wade and the mods thought it was doing more harm than good, so it got locked. You're on your own as far as finding abusive reviews now. However, there are great places to look: spam movies, popular video game parodies (used to be the SMBZ series, now look on any of Egoraptor's "Awesome" movies, since that's what the spammers hate most), anything on the front page, Turd of the Week, Underdog of the Week, sometimes Review Crew Pick (though not always), and the highest-up non-purple movies in the Most Recent 50. Also there are two BBS threads in which the review mods (especially Malachy) have tried and are still trying to teach users what's abusive and what's not.

Read everything posted in those threads, especially everything posted after January 24, 2009 (when Rage's got shut down and Malachy decided to answer Whistle-related questions in his thread). And if you're looking for rule-breaking Flashes, which I'm pretty sure give more points than reviews, we often post them in the Elite Guard Barracks.

The most recent page usually has one or two, though you've got to get them fast: we all have usable Whistles, and we get at those rule-breaking fuckers, claw out their God-forsaken eyes, and tear them limb from limb in a matter of five minutes.
