I've been waiting...

...since the Fagamut one-off, waiting for this movie to finally be released, and now it's here! I will admit that I was a bit worried the last few days about whether you'd actually release this, with Afro_Stud giving up on his series, but I suppose my fears were unfounded. Now, onto the movie!

It's just as good as I expected. In fact, I could even say it was better than I expected it to be. You made some improvements to your drawings I see, and that certainly boosted its quality. I also didn't expect the use of cheat codes and such, which are a real blast from the past for me since I used to play Pokémon, and used them a long time ago (incidentally, you might have found your game less corrupted if you had simply used another trick I know, with some trainers near the Seafoam Islands... But I digress). And Digimon and a PS3 are never expected in any Pokémon Flash like this, so I had to laugh at the use of them.

All in all, this one's pretty good. In fact, one of the best and funniest movies I've seen on NG thus far.

Once I've done a fair amount of stuff on one flash, I refuse to cancel the project. I just hate to waste effort I put into any flash, even if I only worked on it for an hour or two. If I decided to not submit this flash after what happened recently, it would have been a complete waste of time.

Ah, I couldn't leave this flash without some misfortune at the end of it, and the use of cheat cartridge I thought was perfect for a Pokemon parody. It reminds me of the time I used an infinite master ball cheat on Pokemon Silver and it fucked the shit out of my key items bag. :( Never again I trusted a cheat cartridge. I never had any major problems with Missingno. however, but that was mainly because I never caught one on my Blue game.

Of course Digimon on the PS3 would never be expected because there isn't a Digimon game for the PS3 AFAIK. And besides, Digimon has been very quiet for years now.

Thanks for that great review (I noticed this is your 100th flash review :) ) SoulMaster71!

Good work, Star Syndicate.

I usually don't like noir; it's often a bit too serious for my tastes. But this one was good, indeed better than good. Truly this submission was deserving of the day celebrating it! There is much here to love, for any fan of great Flash movies.

It's almost impossible for me to try to give any "help" or "tips" in the face of near-perfection, especially since I'm not a Flash-maker myself, but I did have one minor problem, not with the content of the movie but with the preloader. You see, it took multiple clicks of the "Play" button to get the movie to play. And while the reward for finally getting it to work was definitely worth the number of clicks, it was still a bit of a minor nuisance (just not enough of one for me to take off review points).

thanks for the review sir!

All right...

I just reviewed the daily submission from the main series by Afro_Stud, so it's only fair that I do the same for the Special Episode submitted around the same time.

All in all, this was almost the same as most of the others. But it was just, well, a little better. Some change every now and then is a good thing, as today's short break from Pokémon to celebrate a respected Newgrounds moderator certainly is.

But just like I said in other reviews of these same sorts of submissions, it's just not enough. It could use some work, preferably in the form of animation. Heck, even if it's just a little tweening, it would be a major improvement over most of these submissions, which are for the most part single-frame movies after the intro (except when Afro_Stud decides to add the Pokémon's evolution scene).

As far as scores go, +1 for the intro (which never gets old), +1 for the break in the monotony and the celebration of a respected Newgrounds figure, +1 for the background music (last time I heard this song was quit a while ago, and it brought back some memories), and +1 for your ability to actually find a picture of a blue hippo.
2/5, 4/10

kinggila responds:

I respect the fact that the score was lowered down a lot due to the lack of animation, but as a big fan of Afro_Stud's Adolf Hitler flashes, I wished to have made my own Adolf Hitler flashes as well in the exact same style as his flashes. If his flashes were more animated, I would have added some animation here as well. But hey, a bit of animation for these special episodes wouldn't hurt anyone, besides Afro_Stud. XPXP

With Afro_Stud's permission, I have made some special episodes just to celebrate certain landmarks of the main series, some for people's birthdays like this one for BlueHippo and most importantly, I make these special episodes for fun. :) Still, there's absolutely nothing wrong with your review score here.

Also, I was extremely lucky to have gotten that blue hippo BG. I almost lost the image of it because of sites disallowing direct links from Google, but was lucky enough to still get it. :)

One last thing, I remember your review for Fagamut: FAI493+D 001 and considering the fact that you enjoyed it, you might like to know that Bahamut: CAI493+D 001 shall be submitted to the portal on 27th April. :D Thanks for the great review SoulMaster71!

At the very least...

I have to admire your regularity in putting out one of these every day (or damn close to it) for 232 days so far, and it seems very likely that you will continue this regularity all the way up to Day 493. That regularity alone earns you an extra point today.

Now as far as this particular submission is itself concerned, there's nothing much to see here, not much that's different from the rest of this series. I must admit that I do like the "evolution" days, if only because of that slight bit of animation at the start, straight from the Pokémon game though it is. Coul likely use something similar on other days, even if only a thing of the Pokémon in question being caught.

Let's see what else... Oh right, the main attraction to each of these. The scene with the shopped Hitler, the Pokémon, the scenery, and the song. Today's scenery fit Donphan quite well, though the song didn't quite sound tough enough over my computer speakers. However, it's still generally similar to what you submit every day, in that it follows the same general formula of "Intro+modified Hitler+Pokémon+Music+Background=Submi ssion". So while it's not worse than the others by any means, you had reached the upper limits of the formula by Day 151.

+1 review score for your regularity in submitting these daily, and another +1 for the intro (which never gets old), and yet another +1 for the background fitting Donphan very well. But these could likely benefit daily from a little more than just the intro and the scene, as today's benefits from having the evolution scene.

AfroUnderscoreStud responds:

The only reason there hasn't been one every day is because I had two submissions unfairly flagged, which was no fault of my own.

Thanks for the lengthy review.

All right...

I now sort of understand why you're doing this. You have a number of somewhat vocal fans, fans who enjoy these kinds of movies, who clamored for you to start a new series after your original Adolf Hitler: Around The World in 80+ Days series. You also seem to like making them and submitting them, and co-authoring a number of your friends on them with the effect of a large-scale Flash Count +1. Therefore, you continue to submit these movies.

However, I personally don't tend to enjoy them. After the preloader and intro, they are (obviously) just a Pokémon, a shopped picture of Hitler, some scenery, and a song. Your fans (and possibly you yourself) apparently enjoy these sorts of submissions, but they're just not my personal preference.

Actually, as far as this particular movie (Swinub in the snowy mountains, with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer playing), it might have been more fitting around Christmas. It's kind of a few months late for a Christmas-themed episode.

A +1 review score because of the fair-quality modifications made to Hitler to make him look a little more like a Swinub (especially relative to the modifications made in a number of the spinoffs), and another +1 for the intro (Stupid MFer by Mindless Self-Indulgence is a pretty good song), but other than that I personally didn't get much entertainment value out of this one (although some people very well might).
1/5, 1/10.

AfroUnderscoreStud responds:

I don't enjoy any aspect of these.

Different, to say the least.

Every day, or at least every day I decide to do some B/P, I see the same old things over and over again. The same overused concepts put together endlessly in certain ways. Mario mishaps. Navi annoying Link. Madness tributes, Madness tributes, and more Madness tributes. While I sometimes enjoy them, they do get fairly boring from time to time. And then I click on this Flash... And it's a real breath of fresh air. Original, that's what I'm trying to say. And perhaps "experimental" might apply as well. And after tons of overused shit flooding the Portal, that is most definitely a good thing.

But of course, originality alone doesn't explain my rating for this. It's also fairly fun to watch. The only problem I have with it is the strange squiggles you put on at times, and the text of similar sort that I couldn't read. I know that was your intention, and it certainly adds to the whole "trippy" atmosphere of the movie, but it's not usually something I'm into. Still, on the whole it was a good submission.
4/5, 8/10.

Mechabloby responds:

Glad you enjoyed it. I am going to make much more stuff like this in the future so you may want to keep an eye out for it.

Oh, what the truck?

You mean that there was a shippy holiday yesterday and I didn't even trucking know about it? Ah, well. The Flash was pretty good anyways, as funny as I've come to expect from your submissions, so I shouldn't be too unhappy that Censorship Day passed me by.

kinggila responds:

Yep, consider yourself trucking lucky.

I'm impressed.

I remember back in December, when these weren't all that good. They didn't have sound, the graphics were poor, there was no background, and they were, at best, worthy of a 2 vote.

Flash forward to February 2008. The idea of yoshi77777 has been picked up by Bstuk2, and great improvements have been made. Sound and backgrounds have been added, the range of sprites has been improved greatly, and these have become much better. I like the change, and I am impressed by the greatly-improved quality of these animations from their December version.
4/5, 8/10

Bstuk2 responds:

Thanks! The next ones wont be as big as of an improvement of this one, because there isn't very much to improve on at the skill level I have. I really do want to finish this series, but I probably wont seeing that I have 56 left.

I'm usually not a fan...

...of all these spinoffs of AfroUnderscoreStud's series. His original is OK, but seeing all of the spinoffs in the Portal is overdoing it. However, this was my favorite of the spinoffs, and I even liked it better than his original series. Good job with this one, Bahamut.

Actually, the reason that I liked this one was probably that it deviated a bit from Afro's concept. All of Afro_Stud's submissions of this sort are a single picture after the intro, and without anything to them except the Pokémon, the Photoshopped Hitler, the background, and the music. Yours, however, had multiple characters interacting, talking, moving around... That made it original, or at least more so than the other spinoffs.

But enough of me stating the obvious. I liked this movie, as much for my own reasons (which even I don't understand) as for its deviation from (and yet keeping to) an established concept. Overall, best spinoff of CAI493+D on the Portal.

kinggila responds:

I'll have to submit Bahamut: CAI493+D 001 sometime soon. It'll be far out of place to all the CAI493+D flashes, but hey, if people want one with animation, then there they go.

Thanks for the review SoulMaster71. :)

Wow.

I guess I just couldn't go without reviewing such a historic moment as the first flash of 08. It's genius, man. Well-made, and funny. And you, yourself, must be a genius for making it.

kinggila responds:

I'm a genius for submitting this at the very right time.
